The tussle between CPM polit bureau member Brinda Karat and a Dehraudun-based yoga guru took a turn today when the Left leader demanded a probe into allegations that human skull and organs of wild animals are used in some ayurvedic medicines made by Divya Yog Pharmacy, run by Swami Ramdev.
Last month, during her visit to Hardwar, Karat had taken up the cause of sacked workers from the pharmacy. Today, she along with CITU members and sacked workers staged a day-long dharna in front of the secretariat here. She also met Uttaranchal Labour Secretary N.S. Nachpliyal.
The Divya Yog Mandir Trust, which runs the pharmacy, has accused Karat of playing into the hands of MNCs to malign yoga and ayurveda. The trouble for the Swami started following the sacking of 125 volunteers who worked in the pharmacy in Hardwar. Soon CITU pitched in to struggle along side the workers.
Reacting to the allegations, Acharya Balkrishan, secretary of the Divya Yog Mandir Trust, said “the allegations made against the pharmacy are malicious and an attempt to malign yoga, ayurveda and the country.”
“Only sea shells and herbs are used in the medicines which are registered with the Government,” he added.
