NEW DELHI, JAN 6: Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Brajesh Mishra today hit back at former BJP MP J K Jain for allegations against him that he had misused official position to brand Jain as an ISI agent and described the charge as "scurrilous and aimed at character assassination".
Calling the allegations "baseless", Mishra, in a statement here, said no evidence has been offered by Jain TV, owned by J K Jain, to even remotely suggest that there was any truth behind the charges.
In a point-by-point rebuttal of Jain’s charges, Mishra denied that any doctored report was produced by RAW to prevent the appointment of Aftab Hussain Saikia, advocate, as judge of the Guwahati High Court.
Stating that there was no report by RAW in this regard, he said, "In fact, on the basis of a report by another central intelligence agency, the objection regarding his appointment raised by a State Government on the basis of a state police report, was overruled by the Union Government. Saikia went on to become a judge of the Guwahati High Court."
On the charge that he had favoured his niece Vibha Mishra with Government advertising contracts, Mishra said nothing could be further from the truth.
Mishra said she had been running an advertising agency since 1992. "I have not used my official position so as to favour her through any out of turn contract. It is totally baseless to say that she has been given any Government contracts worth Rs 10 crore."
