SURAT, Feb 16: Based on an application from the Rander police, Prevention of Crime Branch PCB of the city on Tuesday arrested one Hitesh Rajnikant Sopariwala, a notorious bootlegger operating in the Rander area under the provisions of the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities PASA Act.

Sopariwala was arrested by a team of PCB police led by PI C M Mudaliyar and despatched to the Junagadh jail to serve a sentence.

According to an application by Rander PI A M Jadeja, Sopariwala was involved in smuggling Indian Made Foreign Liquor IMFL into the city and then selling it from his residence at Punjan House, Palanpur Patia in Rander. Sopariwals8217;s activities were an obstacle in the maintenance of law and order, the application added.

Two arrested: The Mahidharpura police too announced the arrest of two notorious criminals on Tuesday who were involved in a daylight armed dacoity in the area in 1998. Mahesh Babu Parmar alias Mahilo, a resident of Matawadi in the city, and Dinesh Khamji Pancholi, residing at Ved Road, were arrested by the police on Tuesday and would be produced before a magistrate for remand on Wednesday.
