CHANDIGARH, Feb 7: An Army bomb disposal team was mobilised from Chandimandir after a powerful bomb, wrapped in a polythene bag, was found near the railway track near Shahabad Markanda this afternoon. The bomb was detected by the two gangmen, Hari Chand and Sahib Singh, who immediately informed the Railway Police.

Following the recovery of the bomb, all the trains reaching Shahabad, were either halted at their starting points or diverted to Amritsar and Delhi. Passengers were stranded at Ambala, Shahabad and Kurukshetra railway stations. Trains coming from Delhi to Ambala, have been diverted via Saharanpur and Kaithal.

The request for a bomb disposal team was received by the Army authorities at about 5 pm and the team successfully diffused the bomb. Though the Ambala-bound deluxe train was made to stop at Shahabad around 1.30 pm, the gateman at the railway crossing, oblivious of the information, allowed a goods train to proceed.
