Three more bodies of ITBP jawans were recovered today, taking the toll in last week’s snow avalanche near Jawahar tunnel (on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway) to 14, a Defence spokesman said.
Three bodies of the ITBP jawans, who were missing since the avalanche struck on February 7, were recovered today by a joint team of the Army, Beacon and ITBP, he said, adding no more persons were missing.
The bodies recovered today have been identified as Sepoys Zakir Hussain, Padam Singh and Kesav Ram. Yesterday, the search team had retrieved the body of Sepoy Omkar Prakash, the spokesman said.
A massive avalanche swept away five huts of ITBP personnel posted on guard at the tunnel, burying 20 jawans under the snow. Six bodies were retrieved and four jawans were rescued on February 7, while three jawans were rescued after 36 hours. One of the rescued jawan succumbed to injuries later. The joint search team continued its operations despite hostile weather conditions and has recovered the bodies of all the missing jawans, the spokesman added.
