Even as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is ready with a copy of the final draft of the players’ contracts, the decision to announce it is likely to be further delayed.

The players — after getting the draft — are likely to take some time to consult with legal experts for an opinion on it. “There are issues involved here and the players will be keen to make sure that there is no clash of interest once they sign the deal. That apart, they will also first see to it that they are thoroughly satisfied with it and that can take some time,’’ a senior BCCI official said.

The copy of the final draft will be presented to the senior cricketers of the team once they arrive at Nagpur for the four-day cricket camp ahead of the series-opener against the West Indies.

As reported earlier in The Indian Express, there will be no pay-cut in the per-match fee under the new scheme of things. “There has been a lot of speculation going on in this regard. There will be no pay-cut in the match fee. In fact, the match fee — approximately Rs 2.2 lakh per Test and Rs 1.6 lakh per one-dayer — will almost remain the same,’’ the official said.

The only change in the process is likely to be the fact that there will be less number of players in the contracts (“not more than 7-8’’) and the bonus will be announced to inspire team performances in the future. “There will be no individual hikes or bonuses. Instead, the bonuses will entirely depend on whether the team wins or loses,’’ the official further said. Only members of the playing XI will receive the entire match fee while those in the bench will receive 50 per cent of it.
