Three suspects, who were detained with British and Indian currency notes from Limbi along the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway in Surendranagar district were handed over to the city crime branch, police said on Tuesday.

“Three people were detained from near Limbi in Surendranagar district soon after the serial blasts when they were leaving the city,” a crime branch official said.

The trio–Abdul Quadir, Hasil Mohammad and Hussain Ibrahim–were detained for questioning and were handed over to the crime branch on Monday, sources said.

“They were detained as they contradicted each other in their initial questioning by Surendranagar police. The city crime branch is exploring if they have any links with SIMI and Indian Mujahideen,” the official said.

Police found money in British pounds and Indian rupees from them while checking. However, they did not specify the amount of cash recovered from the trio.

“The fact that they were carrying British currency raised suspicion about them,” the official added.

Their mobiles phones have been seized and police are investigating on with whom they were in contact.
