NAGPUR, Nov 12: The former Haryana minister and noted social crusader Swami Agnivesh, has predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would capture power at the Centre by splitting Congress and other parties.

Talking to mediapersons at Tilak Patrakar Bhavan here on Tuesday, the Arya Samaj leader said that Uttar Pradesh has given a signal to the pro-Hindu party for forming a government at the Centre and there is a strong possibility that the BJP would soon form such a government.

According to him, there was also a strong possibility of repetition of the Uttar Pradesh-like situation in Gujarat, where Dilip Parikh-led Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) government will seek vote of confidence in the state Legislative Assembly on November 13. In Gujarat, a section of Congress MLAs under the leadership of the former Chief Minister, Chhabildas Mehta, hinted that it would be difficult for Parikh government to win the trust vote, he pointed out.

Answering a question Agnivesh said that there was a lot of hue and cry over the defection of Congress and Samajwadi Party MLAs and their support to the Kalyan Singh government. “Why everybody kept mum when P V Narasimha Rao, saved his government by manipulating Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Lok Sabha members ?” he asked and regretted that lack of moral and ethical values in present-day politics.

“The BJP which has been advocating moral and ethical values in politics, now lay exposed following the developments in Uttar Pradesh,” he said and hoped that time would soon come when people would opt for a better alternative and dump all these `opportunist’ parties.

Answering another question he said that there was not much difference between the United Front government led by I K Gujral, and the previous Congress government. “The UF government is working under pressure of the Congress and hence nothing can be expected from them,” he said.
