In a belated attempt to appease the DMK on the Parithi Ilamvazhudhi issue, BJP All India secretary L. Ganesan today called upon Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker K. Kalimuthu to revoke the DMK MLA’s suspension and also to withdraw the complaint preferred against him.

Close on the heels of a statement issued to that effect here, Ganesan told The Indian Express that his party was willing to work for an issue-based coordination with the DMK inside the Assembly.

‘‘After all, the DMK is the leader of the NDA in Tamil Nadu and we should support its initiatives, even though technically speaking, the relationship between the DMK and our state unit remains severed,’’ he said.

Ganeshan’s statement comes a day after DMK chief M. Karunanidhi kept the BJP out of an anti-AIADMK party meeting to finalise an agitation on the issue. He said the BJP was not invited because it did not support the DMK in the Assembly.

On the Parithi issue, Ganesan blamed Tamil Maanila Kamraj Congress member D. Kumaradoss for provoking the DMK members and pointed out that the Assembly should be used only for highlighting people’s issues.

And Parithi should not have moved ‘‘aggressively’’ towards Kumaradoss. The punishment of suspension for the duration of the Budget session was also disproportionate to Parithi’s action, Ganeshan said.
