MUMBAI, JANUARY 6: In view of the hike in prices of essential commodities announced by the State Government, the BJP has decided to undertake an agitation to voice their opposition to the hike.

Party spokesperson Prakash Jawdekar told reporters that the hike in prices of rice, wheat and sugar only shows that the Democratic Front Government is opposed to the poor who will be the most affected by the hike. He said that the agitation will be held in the near future and added that the statement made by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh that the government will save Rs 384 crore is utterly baseless.

He said that the unceremonious transfer of Director General of Police Arvind Inamdar was totally uncalled for. “This shows that the officer was transferred on political grounds”, he added. Condemning the transfer, Jawdekar said that Inamdar should be congratulated on tendering his resignation and not accepting the new posting.

Jawdekar further alleged that Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar held ameeting of officials of Konkan Valley Development Corporation at the office of the corporation which is improper. He said that Pawar has no business to conduct meetings of corporation officials as he is no way connected with the government and that too in the corporation office. There is enough proof of this as Doordarshan as well as several newspapers have covered the event, Jawdekar said.

“The opposition was criticising the remote control when the Sena-BJP were in power. If this is not remote control, then what do we call it”, he asked.
