“The time has come when the government should take a tough stand and foil Pakistan’s attempts to stoke militancy in the state,” he said, adding that Pakistan was not only sending mercenaries to the Kashmir Valley and parts of Jammu but was also resorting to unprovoked firing in several areas along the border.

Reacting to China’s allegation that India had occupied vast tracts of Chineseterritory, Sharma accused China of trying to rewrite history. It was for the first time since 1962 that such a charge was being levelled by Beijing, he said, pointing out that Aksai Chin was still under Chinese occupation.

He said it was a widely accepted fact that China had launched an unprovoked attack upon India in gross betrayal of the Hindi-Chini bhai-bhai spirit. “The aggressor is trying to pretend that he is the aggressed,” he said.

According to Sharma, the rejection of economic sanctions against India by the G-8 countries was a great victory for India. “It is high time that the big five should work for securing a permanent seat for India in the UN Security Council. That will be a positive step,” he added.
