The BJP is gearing up to go it alone in the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu, more by force than choice, with the AIADMK steadily ignoring its overtures so far.
‘‘We are confident, even without taking the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu into consideration, the BJP and its allies in other parts of the country can easily get a comfortable majority,’’ a senior BJP leader said.
The message apparently from the party’s national leadership was reportedly conveyed to the state office-bearers on Wednesday. Further, since some of its Tamil Nadu allies had quit the NDA due to political compulsions and not out of disagreement with Vajpayee, the BJP does not rule out one of them returning after the elections.
BJP national secretary L. Ganesan said the party’s state unit wanted to align with the AIADMK and it was for the Central leadership to decide.
