The BJP is planning to amend the party constitution to accommodate a larger number of office-bearers. The move will be carried at the Raipur national executive meeting, which is scheduled to be held from July 18 to 20.

Sources said the proposed changes will ensure the party, from the central-level to the district, has at least one woman in one rung of office-bearers. Thus, there will be a woman vice-president, general secretary and secretary.

Another amendment on the cards will allow a person to hold the office of president again after a gap of three years. Existing rules allow a president to remain in power for a single term.

Incumbent M. Venkaiah Naidu who holds office on an ad-hoc basis, is eligible for seeking an election even under the present rules. Technically, he is only chipping in for predecessors Bangaru Laxman and K. Jana Krishnamurthi, both had resigned before completing their term.
