CALCUTTA, March 8: Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders today firmly resolved to fight against CPM “atrocities” and put an “end to the days of misrule” in West Bengal as the two parties held preliminary talks on jointly contesting the forthcoming panchayat polls in the state.
Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee said she would invite Atal Behari Vajpayee “after his swearing-in as prime minister” to attend the party’s victory rally at Brigade Parade Ground in the city to be held either this month end or early April.
Mamata said she would leave for Delhi with her party MPs tomorrow to meet the BJP leaders. She would also meet the Chief Election Commissioner to claim national status for Trinamool Congress which secured 3.56 per cent votes in an all India level.
Trinamool Congress felicitated both its and BJP’s polling and counting agents at a function where Banerjee and BJP’s state vice-president Paras Dutta shared a common dais to launch a tirade against the CPM-led LeftFront. “Our next course of action will be to oust the atrocious CPM from power and restore the rule of law in West Bengal. This will have to be translated into reality in the coming panchayat polls,” they said.
