BHUBANESWAR, JULY 19: President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar on Monday said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be the main adversary of his party in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing a news conference here, Pawar said that while the foreign origin of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her inability to lead the country will be made an election issue by his party, the failures of the Atal Behari Vajpayee Government at the Centre will also be highlighted.
Pawar and three NCP general secretaries, P A Sangma, Tariq Anwar and Debendra Dwivedi reached here on Sunday to attend the first youth convention of the party held at Cuttack.
Pawar said that NCP will try to reach out to the states and try to associate youngsters, intellectuals, senior Congressmen away from politics and district level functionaries. The NCP would concentrate on only some seats in some states during the next Lok Sabha elections, he informed.
Pawar said the NCP and the Samajwadi Party have already enteredinto an alliance to contest the Lok Sabha polls. Besides, talks are also on with regional parties with common programmes like the Tamil Manila Congress, he added.
Pawar said the party is watching the developments in the Janata Dal and will take a decision whether to have an understanding with it for the Lok Sabha polls soon.
