The BJP, which had moved the Supreme Court against Bihar Governor Buta Singh’s recommendation to dissolve the state Assembly, is now hoping that the apex court does not go to the extent of reviving the Assembly, party sources indicated here today.
The SC is expected to give its verdict in the next few days.
But with the election process under way, the BJP is no longer keen on a ‘‘favourable’’ verdict that would entail revival of the old Assembly. Such a revival would mean ‘‘restoring status quo ante’’. This would mean that the split in the Lok Janashakti Party would not be recognised and neither would the movement of Independents and ‘‘rebels’’ to the JD(U), BJP or the RJD in the last three months. Since seat adjustments, selection of candidates, preparation of poll material has been completed, the JD(U)-BJP combine is keen to go ahead with the polls.
The BJP’s dream scenario is that the court passes strong strictures against Buta Singh’s decision but stop short of reviving the Assembly.
