.

In a bid to woo the fairer sex with the Maharashtra Assembly elections round the corner, the BJP today adopted a charter of women’s rights, seeking death sentence for rapists, financial provision for rehabilitation of rape victims, laws to tackle increasing sexual harassment of working women and amendments to provide financial security to Muslim women.

‘‘A stringent law seeking death sentence for the rapists should be brought in to stop the crime against women,’’ says the charter that was adopted at the convention of state BJP’s women wing here.

In the charter, the party has also demanded a separate fund to provide financial assistance for rehabilitation of rape victims. It says the accused should be made to pay for the victim’s rehabilitation, but in case the accused fails to do that, money from the fund should be used for rehabilitation. There should be a strict legislation to fight the increasing sexual harassment of working women, the charter adds.
