MUMBAI: State Bank of Travancore (SBT) is among the ten public sector banks to be granted more operational freedom and autonomy. The bank will get more freedom in matters pertaining to recruitment of skilled personnel, among other things.SBT has fulfilled all the requirements set by the government to qualify for autonomy. It has been profitable for more than the last 50 years, CAR stands at 8.17 per cent and net NPA at 8.82 per cent of net advances.
Pressman income, profits up
MUMBAI: Pressman Ltd has reported encouraging results for the six-month period ended September 1997. It has reported an income of Rs 1994.58 lakh compared to Rs 1656.12 lakh in the same period last year, an increase of 20 %. The gross profit has increased by 11 % to Rs 1052.46 lakh compared to Rs 944.92 lakh. The net profit as per prudential norms has increased to Rs 586 lakh compared to Rs 560.74 lakh.
Charagh Din to expand base
MUMBAI: The state-of-the-art trouser factory of Charagh Din in Kandivali has started production in a big way. Charagh Din trousers have been in the field for the last ten years, providing the customer’s choice. Harish Daswani, the owner of the company, says his customers come from as far away as Nagaland and Mizoram. With a mailing list of 10,000, about 40 per cent of the trousers are brought through mail order. Most of the customers, according to Daswani, are businessmen and individuals of high net worth.
State promises to boost industry
MUMBAI: State chief Minister Manohar Joshi said his government was committed to providing necessary assistance for the growth of industry and economy of state. "My government has already introduced a round-table conference system in Mantralaya for the speedy clearance of industrial projects and remove bottlenecks," he said at a meeting to celebrate the first anniversary of Western Regional council of FICCI.
