SEBI clears ICSE norms
MUMBAI: The SEBI has cleared the eligibility norms for members of the Inter-Connected Stock Exchange ICSE. This has paved the way for the country8217;s first inter-connected system of stock exchanges. The exchange has decided to convene its first board meeting this Saturday.
According to sources, the regulator has cleared all pending applications and it is now for the exchange to get its act together and commence operations. Sources at the inter-connected exchange said that they had received an informal intimation from the regulator last week and are awaiting a written consent.
Excise face-off
MUMBAI: Representatives of trade associations are to meet the Chief Commisioner of Central Excise on Tuesday in the background of a face-off between industry and the excise department over alleged coercive measures adopted by the department. Members of several trade associations met at the Indian Merchants8217; Chamber and opposed any compromise formula on thepayment of duty through PLA accounts. Units in 15 industrial areas in the Thane Belapur belt did not clear goods today to protest against the measures adopted by excise officials. Dilip Parekh, president of the Thane-Belapur Industries Association told the meeting at IMC today that industry in this belt was willing to join a longer strike if necessary.
