MUMBAI, March 23: Binani Industries has embarked on an ambitious plan to increase cement production. The company had commissioned the 1.5 million tonne cement plant costing Rs 550 crore at Shirohi, Rajasthan, in March 1997 and production commenced in July. The cement produced is being marketed in Gujarat, Rajasthan and other parts of the north. The company has also started exporting it to Dubai.

Company’s president, S S Khandekar, said there were plans to expand capacity to five million tonne within the next five years. This would involve expanding capacity of the existing unit to three million tonnes and commissioning a new two million tonne plant in Gujarat, he added.

Binani has entered into technical collaboration for the cement unit with FL Smidth of Denmark and Larsen and Toubro.
