The Bihar Animal Husbandry department continues to spell doom for ministers. Animal Husbandry Minister Ramashray Sahni was sentenced to life today for his role in a murder that took place 20 years ago and he is the fourth animal husbandry department minister to be sent to jail.
Sahni, along with 11 others, was sentenced to life by a fast track court in Samastipur in a 1982-murder case. This senior Cabinet member resigned from his post after the verdict was delivered.
The fast-track court found Sahni and 11 others guilty of the murder of havildar Kameshwar Choudhury. Choudhury was killed near Bhamrupur area in the Samastipur district. A total number of 16 persons were accused in the case. Two died during the course of the trial while two were let off due to insufficient evidence.
The matter was brought up in the state Assembly with the RJD assuring the House that the minister had resigned. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ramchandra Purbey informed the House that Chief Minister Rabri Devi had accepted Sahni’s resignation.
