NEW DELHI, May 20: Biennial elections to 47 Rajya Sabha seats in nine states will be held on June 18.The Election Commission today announced the schedule for elections to fill RS seats which will fall vacant when members from nine states retire between June 29 and August one.Eleven members will retire on June 29. Of these five are from Madhya Pradesh and six from Tamil Nadu. Twenty-four members are due to retire on July 4, including 12 from Uttar Pradesh, 6 from Maharashtra and 4 from Rajasthan.Seven MPs from Bihar retire on July 7 and two from Haryana on August one.The Election Commission also announced simultaneous biennial elections to state legislative councils to fill 34 vacancies in Bihar, Maharashtra and UP on June 18.Of the 34 legislative council seats, 13 from UP will be falling vacant on July six, 10 from Maharashtra on July 7 and 11 from Bihar on July 21.The notification for the election schedule will be formally announced on May 30, and the last date for nominations will be June six.Scrutiny will take place on June eight and withdrawals can be made till June ten. Polling, if required, will be held on June 18 and the counting will take place on the same day, the Commission said.Among party leaders whose terms come to an end this summer include O Rajagopal, T N Chaturvedi, Sunder Singh Bhandari and Ram Kapse of the BJP, Ajit Jogi and Najma Heptullah.
