Saying that the three slain Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were the brain behind the bomb blast in a suburban train at Mulund, Deputy CM of Maharashtra, Chhagan Bhujbal on Tuesday said police had secured information about a network in India and Pakistan which was assisting terrorists in the country.

Diaries and other documents confiscated from the LeT operatives killed in an encounter at Goregaon last week, listed names and addresses of people in India and Pakistan who were part of the network, Bhujbal disclosed in a debate on the Home Department’s budgetary demands.

After studying the recovered material, police concluded that the Mulund blast was their handiwork, Bhujal said. Two of them were identified as Abu Arkam or Sultan and Anwar Ali or Rajab Ali. The third was a Kashmiri but he has not been identified.

Abu Arkam, a resident of Lahore, was southern command chief of the LeT. He had been assigned the task of killing VIPs, planning bomb blasts especially in trains and also recruiting and training local youths.

A few days before he was killed, Arkam had contacted Adil alias Rawal, a conduit in Dubai in connection with the smuggling of arms and grenades.

Anwar Ali, a resident of Karachi, was an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operative. His job included training, preparing maps of important places and sending them to others in the network, arranging accommodation for terrorists entering and also distributing funds.
