Asian flu has no effect on bettors
Despite Indonesia’s worst economic crisis in decades, ardent football fans have found the money and the time to gamble on the World Cup. In a country where organised gambling is illegal, the bets range in value from a cigarette or a milkshake to half a million rupiah (about $30). Bets on who will win the World Cup can be done in a pool with the favourite teams having greater minimum bets. Bets on Brazil, for example, start at 100,000 rupiah with "as high as you can go" as the limit.
