
CALCUTTA, JUNE 15: West Bengal will soon become the first state in the country to have a flawless, geographically correct map with details down to the block level.
The intricate mapping project to be completed by the turn of this century by the National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation NATMO here, will give cartographers, administrators and academicians, precise block by block8217; account of the state.
8220;Out of the total 341 blocks, maps for 120 have already been submitted to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development and 60 more are ready for submission,8221; NATMO director Prithvis Nag told PTI.
The new maps will be scientifically based to scale with to-the-point orientations and boundaries confirming to ground realities unlike the earlier police station maps prepared by the State Department of Land Records, Nag said.
Lack of proper geographical orientation plagues records of most of the other state maps, prepared on poor quality paper which crumple with time imbalancing basicmeasurements, he said.
