
The joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Prof Ratnakar Shetty, today cleared the air about the payment to domestic cricketers. While Shetty, back after a two-day BCCI meeting in New Delhi, said that the contract for the international players will be implemented by month end there was no such plans for the domestic cricketers.
‘‘The new payments to domestic cricketers as per the revised method have already been implemented since the start of 2003-04 season. There is no contract system for domestic cricketers,’’ he stressed.
‘‘The board has earmarked 26 per cent of its gross earnings out of which 13 per cent goes to international cricketers and 10.4 per cent to domestic players and 2.6 per cent for juniors.’’
Based on this, a domestic cricketer gets Rs 4,000 per day which comes to Rs 16,000 per match. An equal amount — Rs 16,000 — is goes to his benevolent fund. ‘‘For Ranji semifinal and final and Duleep Trophy matches, the amount becomes Rs 20,000,’’ Shetty explained.
Meanwhile on the issue of contract for international players he said, ‘‘the legal advisors have drafted the document and is expected to be implemented, subject to players’ approval, within a month’s time.’’
