“It’s only a fight of ego”. That’s how the Supreme Court of India today explained the turn of events in BCCI. The observation came from the Chief Justice of India Justice R C Lahoti as soon a petition filed by the Cricket Associations of Rajasthan, Bihar and Netaji Cricket Club of Chennai was mentioned before a three-judge bench headed by him.
The court also refused to grant the petitioners plea for an early hearing on for advancing the BCCI polls and challenging the September 23 Calcutta High Court order setting aside the appointment of former Chief Justices of India K N Singh and M N Poonchi as additional special observers for the elections.
The court, however, said there was no urgency and posted the matter for hearing on October 3.
In their SLPs before the court, the petitioners have sought restoration of the earlier single bench decision of the High Court directing conduct of BCCI elections under the supervision of Justice Singh and Justice Poonchi besides former Supreme Court judge S C Sen.
The petitioners submitted that the proceedings initiated by the Kalighat cricket club of Kolkata was collusive in nature and was only to pre-empt proceedings already pending in the Chennai High Court.
