Sean Ervine removed both openers before Zimbabwe ripped through Bangladesh’s middle order batting on the third day of the rain-delayed second Test on Saturday.

Bangladesh, 0-1 down in the two-Test series and put in to bat, had slipped to 88-5 in their first innings when rain forced an early close of the day’s play.

Play had started an hour before lunch under gathering storm clouds, after the first two days were wiped out without a ball being bowled because of a wet outfield. Bangladesh openers Sarker and Hossain survived a testing spell by Heath Streak to reach the interval on 24/0.

Brief scores: Bangladesh (1st Innings): 88-5 (Hannan Sarkar 25, Shahriar Hossain 31, Ervine 2-26).
