Mumbai, December 9: Bandra Packers scored won their first MDFA Super-league encounter this season beating Royal Caterers 1-0 at the St Xavier's Ground, Parel, today. The match winner came, late in the second-half through Simplicio Fernandes. The stocky forward delighted the crowd with a fine solo after collecting the ball from a melee a few yards from the centre and scoring off a crisp left-footer across the Caterers custodian Ashok Lobo.Having beaten Packers in the Harwood league encounter, the Caterers started off as favourites, but not for long. Bandra Packers dominated the proceedings right from the start penetrating the Caterer's defence regularly.Earlier the Caterers came dangerously close to taking the lead when Hasmukh Baria managed to break the Packers' defence. But a timely forward dive by custodian Sunil Parmar saved what could have spoiled the Packers party. It was a fine effort by the comparatively less experienced Packers team who treated the audience with some fast-paced action, especially the mid-fielders who looked very much in fine nick.In a Division III play-off match, played earlier in the day, Don Bosco Oratory B pipped Cafe Royal 4-2, via tie-breaker after both teams failed to score till full time. Ghanshyam Kanojia, Prabhakar Gawand, Mohammad Khan and Bharat Chinkate netted for the winners.
