It was billed as home-coming for former MP Balram Yadav to Congress after several years of a fruitful career in the Samajwadi Party and BJP. However, Yadav soon found the tables turned on himself with the media seeking to corner him for his party-hopping.
Yadav was finally bailed out by Congress general secretary Satyavrat Chaturvedi, who held him by his elbow and led him out of the media conference to save him from a volley of embarrassing questions.
Prabhu Dayal Kathiria, a BJP leader, who also joined the Congress, met the same fate. Reporters wanted to know why Yadav had left the Congress and why he had returned now after having fought the last LS poll on the BJP symbol.
Someone asked him why he left the SP in between. A reporter was a little too pointed. ‘‘How many parties have you changed?’’ he asked. Yadav’s answer that he was drawn to Congress by Sonia Gandhi’s leadership had no takers. Reporters sought to know why he quit SP to join BJP even though Sonia led the Congress then.
Chaturvedi quickly fielded Kathiria. Reporters asked him what made him shift from BJP to Congress. He said: ‘‘BJPwalas are neither loyal to Ram nor Rahim.’’
Soon Chaturvedi brought the proceedings to an end.
