Ballia, Jamshedpur LS bypolls on Aug 29

By-Elections to the Ballia and Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituencies and Assembly seats in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will be held on August 29.

By-Elections to the Ballia and Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituencies and Assembly seats in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will be held on August 29.

The Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and Ballia (UP) Lok Sabha seats fell vacant following the deaths of Sunil Kumar Mahto and Chandra Shekhar respectively.

In Uttarakhand, a bypoll will be held to the Dhumakot Assembly Constituency vacated by Tejpal Singh Rawat, who left the Congress to join the BJP.

The three assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh where bypolls are being held includes Gunnaur, which was vacated by former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav as he has retained Bharthana.

The two other seats are Suar Tanda and Farrukhabad, which fell vacant in the wake of the resignations of Samajwadi Party members Nawab Kazim Ali Khan and Vijay Singh respectively after they joined the BSP. Vijay Singh has since been expelled from the BSP too.

August 10 is the last date for filing nominations while August 13 is the last date for withdrawing the same. The counting of votes will be done on August 31.

The model code of conduct has come into effect from Tuesday.
