VOICE, a voluntary consumer organisation that has been testing various consumer products on a regular basis has come up with its test results on ten leading ceiling fans this time. According to the test carried out by VOICE, though all brands feature in the ‘‘Good’ category, none of them meets the required standards for power Input and service value parameters.
Of all the ten brands—which includes, Alstom, Bajaj, Cinni, Crompton Greaves, Khaitan, Usha, Orient, Ortem, Polar and Usha-Martin— only one brand, MIE, was found to be ISI marked. Of the brands tested, Bajaj emerged as the best buy, just ahead of Crompton Greaves. However, Alstom appeared at the bottom of the heap.
One of the major flaws of most of the brands tested, said Dr Roopa Vajpeyi, editor of the monthly magazine ‘Consumer Voice’ was the difference in the declared power input of the fans and the actual power input.
