Baby born alive after mother dies in car crash

A woman eight months pregnant was mortally wounded in a car crash but her baby survived the trauma and was born several minutes later.

A woman eight months pregnant was mortally wounded in a car crash but her baby survived the trauma and was born several minutes later in hospital, Mexican authorities said.

The young woman died on Wednesday in an ambulance en route to a hospital in Tizayuca, north of Mexico City.

Doctors observed ‘some intense movements in her belly’ and rushed her to the maternity ward where they performed a Caesarian section, hospital spokesman Jose Hernandez said.

The pregnant woman was found in the wreckage of a car that had been traveling at high speed when it lost control on the highway between Mexico City and Pachuca and slammed into a car going in the opposite direction.

Six people were killed in the accident and two others were seriously injured, according to Mexican police.
