If Mayawati was known to be abrasive towards bureaucrats once, she has changed her attitude in her current tenure8212; and got an instant dividend. Akhilesh Das8217;s defection from the Congress to the BSP was facilitated not only by political intermediaries, but also by her handpicked bureaucrat, Navneet Sehgal. Mayawati knew of the chemistry between Sehgal and Das and used it to catalyse his entry into her party. Sehgal was Das8217;s PS in the Steel Ministry before being posted back to the state. Even earlier, Sehgal was Lucknow DM when Das was mayor of Lucknow.
