South Asian regional cooperation and bilateral issues including trade and investment figured prominently in talks between visiting Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and his Bangladesh counterpart Khaleda Zia here on Wednesday.
The two leaders also agreed to the formation of a ‘fund’ to fight poverty in South Asia. Bangladesh foreign secretary Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury told reporters after the meeting, that besides the issues relating to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), bilateral trade and investment also came up for discussion. He said Zia proposed the formation of an ‘‘open fund’’ with contributions from all the member states. The Pakistan Prime Minister and SAARC chairman supported the proposal.
Aziz is in Bangladesh on a two-day visit.
