Amsterdam, July 23: Jelena Dokic and Nicole Pratt won singles matches as Australia beat Taiwan 3-0 yesterday to improve to 2-0 in qualifying for the Fed Cup World Group.
After rain forced play indoors, Pratt routed Hsu Hsueh-Li Hsu 6-1, 6-2, and Dokic beat Wang Shi-Ting 6-4, 6-2. In doubles, Alicia Molik and Catherine Barclay beat Hsu and Weng Tzu-Ting 7-5, 6-2.
Australia tops Group B with one match left, with the winner advancing to face the Group A champion tomorrow for the 13th and final place in next year’s World Group.
The Netherlands improved to 2-0 in Group A with a 3-0 victory over Belarus. Miriam Oremans beat Olga Barabanshikova 6-4, 4-6, 7-5; Kristie Boogert defeated Natasha Zvereva 6-4, 6-4 and Manon Bollegraf-Caroline Vis beat Olga Titiana Poutchek-Nadejda Ostrovskaya 6-2, 6-2.
In the other matches, Japan beat Slovenia 2-1 in Group A and Argentina edged Romania 2-1 in Group B.
