New Zealand have hired a security specialist from rivals Australia to accompany them on their tour of Pakistan which begins with a one-day match in Karachi on Sunday. Brisbane-based Reg Dickason advises the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) on security, and his role for New Zealand would be to ensure the players are well-protected.
“I am basically with them to ensure their security is well looked after and to coordinate with local authorities,” Dickason said mediamen on Friday. Dickason was with the team at a practice session held at Karachi’s national stadium, the venue for Sunday’s first of three One-day Internationals.
“I am quite satisfied with the security arrangements for New Zealand and I am sure this tour will progress smoothly,” he said. “I have been before to Pakistan with the Australian team in 1998 and am well aware of the conditions and how the security system works in this country,” he added.
