A flawless front nine – studded with four birdies – helped Arjun Atwal survive a late slide and sign off a commendable tied fourth in the USD 500,000 Henrico County Open on the Nationwide Tour in Richmond.

The Orlando-based golfer, who won Asian tour’s Maybank Malaysian Open in March, chalked up a four-day total of 12-under 276.

Atwal, who is trying to earn back his US PGA Tour card, sank in an eagle, five birdies against three bogeys to finish off a solid campaign.

Atwal sank the first of his five birdies on the second before picking up three more strokes on the second, fourth and seventh to make the turn four-under.

He struck another birdie on the 10th before hitting a rough patch, dropping three shots on the 12th, 14th and the 17th hole.

However, an eagle on the 15th meant that the sudden slide did not hurt him much.

Meanwhile, after firing matching 274s at the top of the pack, Australian Greg Chalmers (70) edged Norway’s Henrik Bjornstad (70) in a play-off for the top prize at the Dominion Club in Virginia.
