Delhi Metro Phase 4 corridor, Delhi metro phase 4 driverless trains list: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has planned to introduce driverless trains on its upcoming Phase-IV corridors to enhance operational flexibility and minimise human intervention and errors. Speaking to Indianexpress.com, a senior DMRC official has confirmed the development. “The upcoming Phase-IV will also feature driverless trains,” the official said.
Delhi Metro driverless trains
The country’s first driverless train was flagged off on Delhi Metro‘s Magenta Line (Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 28, 2020. Presently, a total of 69 driverless trains are operational on Delhi Metro’s Pink and Magenta Lines.
“At present, Unattended Train Operation (UTO) services are operational on the Pink Line (Line–7) and the Magenta Line (Line–8) of the Delhi Metro network. A total of 43 trains are currently deployed on the Pink Line, while 26 trains are operational on the Magenta Line under the UTO system,” the DMRC official told Indianexpress.com.
DMRC driverless train operations
DMRC’s driverless trains has helped in improving the availability of coaches for service. It also eliminates the manual process of checking done before induction, subsequently reducing burden on train operators.
“After the completion of Phase 4, when driverless operations will be available on the extensions of the Pink and Magenta Lines as well as on the Aerocity – Tughalakabad Silver line (now Golden Line), DMRC shall become the world’s second largest driverless Metro network with 160 kilometres of DTO equipped corridors,” the DMRC said in a statement on November 25, 2022.
Delhi Metro phase 4 corridors
The Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project includes three priority corridors — Majlis Park to Maujpur on the Pink Line, Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg on the Magenta Line, and Delhi Aerocity to Tughlakabad on the Golden Line. The remaining three corridors are Inderlok to Indraprastha on the Green Line, Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block on the Golden Line, and Rithala to Kundli on the Red Line.
