SRINAGAR, MAY 28: Two persons, including the one carrying a bomb, were blown into smithereens and eight others injured, three of them critically, barely 100 meters away from the Srinagar stations of All India Radio and Doordarshan when the bomb went off prematurely around 5 pm on Saturday. One of the two killed has been identified as Bilal Ahmed of Mir Mohalla Malaratta, Srinagar. Bilal was identified from the identity card he carrying on his person. The identity of the other killed is yet to be ascertained. Eyewitnesses, however, identified one of the dead as a mechanic working with the State Road Transport Corporation, whose office is situated across the Tourist Reception Centre Taxi Stand, where the blast occurred.Five of the injured are taxi drivers while the remaining happened to be members of the House Boat Owners Association who were sitting in their office bordering the taxi stand.Ashok Bhan, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir said possibly one of the killed was carrying the bomb. For a minute none of us reacted. But when I looked around, the man standing at the gate was not there. His body had been torn to shreds," said Manzoor Ahmed, a driver."Most of our colleagues injured were the ones who were waiting for their turn. We immediately ferried them to hospital," the driver added. Those injured included Muhammad Yasin, Manzoor Ahmed, Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Sadique, Gulam Rasool and Gulam Muhammad Dhobi. The scene presented a very grim picture.
