MUMBAI, MAY 3: Defending champion Ashwini Puranik of Madhya Pradesh overcame a strong challenge by Maharashtra’s Sangeeta Hemchand in the first day league tie of the second All-India Prize Money Snooker Tournament for Ladies at the Bombay Gymkhana today.

Sangeeta started-off well to take the first frame with comfortable ease at 81-40. But from there onwards Ashwini took control of the game. Back from a short stint in pro-snooker in England, the top seed won the next two frames 74-16, 53-3 to prevail with a 2-1 scoreline in the best of three frames encounter.

Sangeeta had earlier scored a 2-0 win over compatriot Anjali Sengupta

Among other formidables to win today were third seed Judy Walia of Karnataka and Maharashtra’s Neeta Sanghvi.
