PUNE, OCT 14: Underworld don Ashwin Naik, who was recently held while attempting to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border, was on Wednesday brought to Pune from Mumbai. Police said Naik’s involvement is suspected in the abduction and murder of a city estate agent-cum-builder Deepak Deo.
Deepak Deo was abducted from his Wakdewadi residence about two-and-a-half years back. Later, his body was found near Wai in Satara district. Nine persons including Naik gang henchman Sandip Dicholkar and a city hotelier Anil Bhide had been arrested by the crime branch sleuths on charges of abducting and killing Deo.
Police said the Naik gang was suspected to have kidnapped and murdered Deo on the suspicion that he had links with some members of its rival gang led by Arun Gawli.
