If you happen to live around Mumbai’s Bandra Bandstand, chances are you’ll spot Salman Khan riding one of his two new loves. Khan—in Dhoom style—has just bought himself a flaming red Suzuki Hayabusa and a black Yamaha R1. His confidante Nadeem Qureishi says, ‘‘This is bhai’s latest love. He’s like a child with two new toys.’’
On the work front too, Khan’s kicking up a storm. Coming up is a film each with Priyadarshan, Raj Kumar Santoshi, David Dhawan and Nikhil Advani. He’s also considering Ashutosh Gowariker’s costume epic Akbar Jodha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next. And his Hollywood film Marigold takes off this month. But right now, the only thing he’s in the mood for is next week’s Lucky.
You believe in luck?
Immensely. Luck and destiny are the only two things I believe in.
Who is the luckiest guy around?
I know that I’m the luckiest guy on planet Earth. If you think about all that I’ve been through, even you would say the same thing.
What comes to mind when I say lucky lips?
Sneha Ullal.
Something you do before starting a new film to bring in luck.
don’t have any traditions. But, I always wear this ferozi (turquoise) bracelet that my father got for me some 10 years ago. I like having it on me all the time. Now and then I look at it, and feel good.
Are you lucky in love?
In love? Oh yeah, very lucky. Look around, and you’ll find many people who love me. I can’t analyse it. And I don’t want to either. Because if I love someone, I wouldn’t want them to analyse me. Love has to be unconditional, otherwise it’s not there. It can be a bond, chemical or karmic, but it has to be unconditional.
Your lucky mascot.
My family.
What’s the best way to wish someone luck?
just say, ‘‘Way to go.’’ And when I’m watching a cricket match, I say, ‘‘Buck up, India.’’
The luckiest thing that ever happened to you?
The day I was born to my parents.
The last time you got lucky?
I feel I have been lucky every single second of my life. You know my life story, so I bet even you know that.
Did you choose Sneha Ullal because she looks like Aishwarya Rai, who proved quite lucky for you in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam?
Sneha doesn’t look anything like Ash. It’s not fair to compare a 17-year-old to a lady of Ash’s stature. We chose Sneha because she is young, fresh and beautiful.
You are turning 40 this year, anything you want to do to keep the luck going?
Yeah, I’m going to run more. I’ll be fitter than ever.
