The CBI took over the investigations into the sensational murder of a 14-year-old school girl in Noida for which her dentist father has been arrested by the police in Noida even as Uttar Pradesh government transferred three top police officials in the wake of the widespread criticism of the probe done by them.
Within days of a request from UP government that it should probe the murder of Arushi and a domestic help Hemraj in their house at Noida on May 14-15, the CBI set up a 25-member crack team which began the probe by recording the statements of some of kins of the girl including her dentist-mother Nupur Talwar.
The CBI registered a case of murder against unknown persons and its team visited the Talwars’ house in sector 25 of Noida and took in its custody the laptop of Arushi’s dentist father Rajesh Talwar, who had earlier been arrested by police, and the desktop of the girl for examination.
Besides talking to kins of Arushi, the CBI team also spoke to Noida police officials associated with the probe into the double murder.
The Noida police arrested Rajesh Talwar, who is now in judicial custody, but are yet to produce any evidence against him.
Rajesh’s wife Nupur said her husband was innocent and the culprit is ‘out somewhere’. She demanded a CBI inquiry into the murders.
In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati shunted out three top police officials who were involved in the probe — Meerut IG Gurdarshan Singh, DIG P C Meena and Nagar SSP A Satish Ganesh with immediate effect.
