Faced with a defamation suit filed by RSS, HRD Minister Arjun Singh will appear before a magistrate at Jagadhari in Haryana tomorrow.

When asked if he would reiterate in court what he was saying outside, Singh said it was a legal matter, which would be handled by his counsel. On his views on the RSS, he said these had ‘‘not undergone any change whatsoever.’’ Whatever he had stated was on record. ‘‘There is no change in my understanding, outlook and attitude (about RSS),’’ he added.

A reporter asked if he would tender an apology to RSS. Singh said: ‘‘That will give you some pleasure if I do that? I will not give you that pleasure.’’

Singh termed the recent developments in UP as ‘‘unfortunate,’’ but was non-committal on imposition of President’s Rule in the state. ‘‘It is an evolving situation and our party is keeping a close eye on it,’’ he said, adding that there had been discussions in the party, but ‘‘at the moment, no decision has been taken.’’

Another reporter sought to know if Congress continued to support the Mulayam Singh Yadav government. ‘‘Obviously, on record we are,’’ he said, adding: ‘‘What is the need for our support to him?’’ He pointed out that Mulayam had himself stated that he did not need Congress support.

On the possibility of an alliance with BSP leader Mayawati, Singh said he was ‘‘not aware of any move in this regard.’’ He said any type of relationship with any party can develop and such things are in the realm of possibility.

Singh was non-committal about the future Bihar Chief Minister too. He said it was not pragmatic to talk about it now. He said there was ‘‘no question’’ of any intervention by the Prime Minister in the case of kidnapping of a Patna school boy. He noted, ‘‘The kidnapping case should be solved and the boy should be freed.’’
