MUMBAI, October 2: The Andhra Pradesh unit of Congress has alleged irregularities by the state government in awarding a contract to Larsen and Toubro (L&T) for upgradation and development of Kakinada Port in east Godavari district and demanded a CBI probe into it.

Speaking to reporters here today, Congress legislative party leader P Janardhan Reddy objected to the state government striking a deal with L&T with an equity share of 20:80 per cent respectively.

Reddy said it was surprising that the government had settled for a meagre 20 per cent share when a sum of Rs 420 crore had already spent on the Kakinada project.

Questioning the basis on which the contract was awarded to L&T, he reiterated the party’s demand for a CBI probe into the deal or alternatively make available the relevant papers of the agreement to the opposition parties.
