July 29: Brilliant saves by Central Railway (Mumbai Division) goalkeeper Anthony Fernandes went a long way in his team garnering full points from their Mumbai District Football Association-conducted Harwood League clash against Chembur English at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel today.
Chembur English were the dominant team but Anthony D’Souza kept CRMD’s slate clean by bringing off good saves. Chembur English even missed a penalty when Anthony D’Souza brought off a great save from the kick taken by right-half James Fernandes. If was Chembur English’s first defeat. They had won their two previous matches.
Central Railway got their match-winning goal through left-half Sanja Kar from a free-kick. Sanja’s shot, from 20 yards out on the left, was struck with his right instep which curled in past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Vijay Sharma.Earlier, in the Chhatrapati Shivaji (Div I) league match saw Vikhroli XI beat Greater Bombay Police Jr (GBP) 2-1. Prolific scorer Edgar D’Sa scored both the goals for the winners while Sanjay Suryavanshi reduced the margin for the losers.
