LUCKNOW, APRIL 7: In yet another clash between ruling party MLAs and senior officials in UP, a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, along with five accomplices, is alleged to have thrashed the Managing Director of a sugar mill in Udham Singh Nagar and robbed him of Rs 5,000 in cash besides his gold chain and wrist watch.

The police have lodged an FIR against the legislator and the other men, invoking at least 10 sections of the IPC, but so far no arrests have been made. The official, Y K Yaduvanshi, is recovering at a local hospital.

Yaduvanshi was reportedly coming to Lucknow on Thursday afternoon to attend a meeting when his official vehicle was allegedly forced to stop near Seravali Village in Moradabad district by the MLA, Sarvesh Kumar Singh. All the occupants of the vehicle, including two police guards, were allegedly forced to get down and then beaten up with iron rods. They were left in an unconscious state.

The victim managed to return to the place of his posting, got himself medically examined at the local primary health centre – which confirmed six serious wounds – and got an FIR lodged at the Nadehi police post which was later transferred to Moradabad district.

The officer has alleged in the FIR that he was deprived of Rs 5,000 in cash, a gold chain and a wristwatch. He has said that the MLA had met him in connection with payment of a security deposit of Rs 1 lakh of a local contractor, Abdul Latif, but the payment could not be made. This probably was the reason behind the attack on him, he said.

Angry over lack of action against the MLA, employees of the sugar mill suspended work on Friday and put up road blockades. Recently, in a similar incident involving the IG Prisons and a senior BJP MLA, Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta had transferred the official for "misbehaving" with the legislator on the assembly premises. A number of such incidents have occurred during BJP rule but so far the officials have remained at the receiving end.
