A youth tried to commit suicide by consuming poison following denial of permission to meet Chief Minister Rabri Devi for seeking job on compassionate grounds.

Though there were conflicting reports about the exact place where he made the suicide bid, Pawan Gope, who is undergoing treatment at the Patna Medical College Hospital, claimed he had tried to do so at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday evening.

Rabri Devi had left on Monday for New Delhi heading an all-party delegation from Bihar to meet Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee.

Police sources claimed that the youth, Pawan, attempted to commit suicide near the State Secretariat. Pawan told reporters that his father Ramji was a chowkidar at the Masarhi police station before he died in January 2000.

Pawan had then applied for a job on compassionate grounds. The DM forwarded his name to the committee concerned but he never got a job.
