Another 6 quit SNA over Sonal

Six more artistes resigned from the Sangeet Natak Akademi on Tuesday protesting Chairperson Sonal Mansingh’s ‘‘autocratic and undemocratic’’ style of functioning.

The artistes who quit the general council are Hindustani vocalist Ajoy Chakraborty, Chandigarh Akademi Chairman Kamal Tiwari, his predecessor G S Channy, Chennai-based theatre artiste B Jayasree and Parvesh Sethi. Savitri Heisnam, a Manipuri artiste, has resigned from the Akademi’s executive board.

Akademi sources say the resignations should force Minister S. Jaipal Reddy to take action.
